The Best of Reading

We all take our computers for granted these days and it is easy to forget that the data they contain is vital to the everyday running of the business. There’s probably nothing worse than when an unexpected error message comes up. This is just what happened to Martyn Noble of the Best of Reading.

When one of his PCs repeatedly displayed a message warning that a disk failure was imminent, he called in robertson technologies for advice. Having made sure that the data was backed up, we were able to advise on the best way forward and explain the implications in terms of downtime and cost.

Martyn had also noticed that his laptop was running slowly and after a quick health check, we advised him that a memory upgrade would solve the problem. As a result of this inexpensive fix, the machine is now running significantly faster.

Flawless Flooring

Replacing a PC appears at first glance to be a simple task. However, there is a whole raft of choices facing the purchaser. Form factor (tower, mini tower, all-in-one), operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux), hardware manufacturer (Apple, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, IBM....), processor type (Intel, AMD, other), size of disk drive. It’s no wonder that many business owners opt for whatever is on offer at their local PC superstore.

This was just the challenge facing Flawless Floors, a Reading based company providing quality flooring including tiles, laminates and carpets. Thanks to a thriving business, one of their PCs needed replacing with something better able to cope with the increasing demands placed on it. Just as importantly as the hardware, Flawless wanted the right software to match their needs.

After discussing their requirements with Flawless director Mezza Clark, robertson technologies were able to research the marketplace and recommend a suitable system, complete with the right Office Suite and PDF editing capabilities. The proposed computer was a reasonably priced mid-range system with enough memory and disk to cope with the company’s growth over the coming years.

Office Hub

Meeting client requirements and exceeding their expectations is all in a day's work for Virtual PA Julia Howard of Office Hub. The nature of her work is such that whilst she is a virtual member of her clients' teams, there is nothing that would indicate she wasn't a permanent member of staff. On one assignment Julia was faced with the dilemma of how to access and update the calendar and email of a new client whilst integrating everything with her own email accounts. On the face of it, this shouldn't be too much of a problem but there were a few compatability issues with her client's email hosting company.

After spending several hours trying to get things up and running, robertson technologies were asked to offer assistance. They were able to identify and resolve the compatability issues and have everything working to Julia's satisfaction in a very short period of time.
